Sustainable Community Schools Project Manager, Chicago Public Schools
Fanny Diego Alvarez is the sustainable community schools project manager at Chicago Public Schools (CPS). This initiative, jointly created by the Chicago Teachers Union and CPS, aims to support neighborhood schools by investing in wrap-around support services, restorative justice practices, culturally relevant curricula, and family engagement. Born in Guerrero, Mexico, Alvarez immigrated to the United States with her family when she was six years old, where they settled in Chicago's Little Village community. Prior to CPS, Alvarez worked at Enlace Chicago for more than a decade, including as associate director, where she led and supported the areas of education, violence prevention, immigration, and health.
