Father Manuel Dorantes
Pastor, Immaculate Conception Catholic Church; Assistant to the Director, Holy See Press Office
Father Manuel Dorantes is a pastor at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a liaison between the Spanish-speaking media and the Vatican. A native of Mexico who immigrated to the United States when he was twelve, Dorantes felt that communicating with the media on the behalf of the Church was his calling, so while attending seminary, he worked for Telemundo’s local Chicago affiliate and later, for Univision. In 2007, he was ordained to the Transitional Diaconate and served as a deacon at the Shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Des Plaines. He later served as the Associate Administrator of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago. In 2014, he was appointed Assistant to the Director of the press office of the Holy See, the central governing body of the Catholic Church, where he liaises with Spanish-speaking media and translates press briefings. In 2015, he made national headlines when he accompanied Pope Francis on his first trip to the United States, providing commentary in English and Spanish to NPR, MSNBC, the Chicago Tribune, Univision, Telemundo and other outlets. For the past two years, he has served as a pastor at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in the Brighton Park neighborhood of Chicago.
