Immigration Lawyer; Organizer; Executive Director, PASO–West Suburban Action Project
Mony Ruiz-Velasco is an immigration lawyer, organizer, and executive director of PASO–West Suburban Action Project. She works from a gender and race perspective to combine legal, organizing, and policy efforts to create transformational change in the area of immigration. For more than 20 years, she has provided legal services, representation, and counsel to thousands of immigrants and their families, focusing on women, LGBTQ immigrants, survivors of crimes, and other vulnerable populations. She also advises and assists legislators and their staff regarding policy and legislation at the federal, state, and local levels. Her work includes the Violence Against Women Act, the Illinois Trust Act, RISE Act, VOICES Act, and previous efforts on immigration reform.
