Executive Director, Inner City Muslim Action Network (IMAN)
Rami Nashashibi has served as the Executive Director of the Inner-City Muslim Action Network (IMAN) since its incorporation as a nonprofit in 1997. A community organization that fosters health, wellness and healing in the inner-city by organizing for social change, cultivating the arts and operating a holistic health center, IMAN brings community members together in revolutionary ways and has been featured in many publications including the Chicago Tribune, Washington Post, New York Times and The Root and on NPR, ABC-7 Chicago and CBS-2 Chicago. Nashashibi has also served as Visiting Professor of Sociology of Religion & Muslim Studies at the Chicago Theological Seminary, and in 2016 he was appointed by President Obama to serve on the President's Advisory Council on Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships. The Center for American Progress named him as one of their “Faith Leaders to Watch” and the Royal Islamic Strategic Studies Center (in concert with Georgetown’s Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Center for Muslim-Christian Understanding) named him one of the “500 Most Influential Muslims in the World.”
